Choosing neurofeedback equipment can be confusing and complicated. Even when you have identified the company you want to purchase from, there are a number of decisions to be made, all of which are likely to influence the cost of your system, and your future options. The NeuroMeditation Institute is dedicated to helping you get the right system for your needs. Dr. Tarrant or one of our trainers will provide a free 30 minute phone consultation to help you identify which hardware, software, and training will achieve your goals within your budget. In addition, because NMI is an authorized reseller of BrainMaster equipment, we can offer a 10% discount on retail prices if purchased through us. To set up a phone consultation, email us at [email protected].
To get you started, consider your goals and interests. If you will only be using the system for EEG NeuroMeditation, you can probably just work with a 2 channel system, like the 2EB+Clinical discussed below. However, if you want to get really precise, conduct research, or do “brainmapping” of your clients, you will need a system with at least 19 channels, like the Discovery 20. Below is a brief description of some of the basic hardware and software options. This is simply designed as an orientation. If you decide you are interested in pursuing this further, send us a message and let us help-the last thing we want is someone purchasing anexpensive piece of equipment that they don’t know how to use and end up selling in 6 months…..
If you do not need something super sophisticated, and your motivation is primarily to do EEG NeuroMeditation, you might consider a 2 channel amplifier, such as the BrainMaster 2EB+ Clinical with BrainAvatar 4.0 for $1595. This system will allow you to do 1 or 2 channel neurofeedback and is a great entry level system. We have developed NeuroMeditation protocols for each style using 1 or 2 channels which work great with this setup.
If you are interested in recording and analyzing “brainmaps,” or Quantitative EEG’s (Qeeg), for
clinical or research purposes, and/or if you are interested in doing neurofeedback with deeper
brain structures using sLORETA estimations you will need an amplifier capable of recording at least 19 active channels. The BrainMaster Discovery 20 is a good option for most people. This piece of hardware has the capability to do anything you could imagine in the world of neurofeedback (depending on your software). The basic kit with acquisition software (simply allowing you to record EEG) retails for $6690. This is all you would need if you were using it for research purposes. Additional software options increase the functionality of the device and the
price.
This software allows you do to surface neurofeedback training with 1-19 channels.
This software allows you to provide real time Qeeg-based neurofeedback. Essentially, this
allows you to train a client’s surface brainwave activity in relation to the Qeeg Pro database.
This software allows you to do real time z-score neurofeedback training using sLORETA values.
Essentially, comparing the client’s brainwave data to the Qeeg Pro DLL. This option is also
available using the BrainDX database.
This software allows you to image live EEG data on a 3D brain projection. This capability can be
used as a feedback tool for clients, or to visualize brain activity in real time. This software allows
you to choose surface or deeper brain regions of interest, such as the Anterior Cingulate,
Precuneus, or Insula. This software is necessary for any analyses or training using sLORETA
values.
